In 2023, I spent three weeks doing tintypes at the Cape Cod C-Scape Dune Shack, located within the Cape Cod National Seashore. I brought my portable darkroom to this remote, primitive place—no electricity, no indoor plumbing—just pure solitude and nature. Although I usually focus on portrait photography, there weren’t many people around, so I turned my attention to both the shack itself and the dunes. The dunes, with their rough, aged, and torn edges, reminded me of a person—weathered and worn, yet full of character. I also photographed my lovely wife, Sarah, capturing her beauty amid the wild landscape that surrounds the shacks. These historic dune shacks, among nineteen maintained by the Cape Cod National Seashore, serve as quiet refuges for those seeking peace away from the modern world. These images explore themes of resilience, aging, and the raw beauty of nature, emphasizing the enduring spirit of this unique place.
